Worldwide first demonstration of downlink multi-cell joint coherent transmission

At the IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE ICC'09), the worldwide first demonstration of a multi-cell cooperative coherent downlink transmission from two base stations to two mobile terminals was performed by TU Dresden. Here, the cooperating base stations were synchronized in such a way that a phase-coherent transmission was possible, so that the desired signals could overlap at the terminals in a constructive way, while the inter-cell interference was almost completely suppressed.
